Going Batty

25 Apr

Sod tractors surely these bats are the perfect wall dressing for a child’s bedroom. Granted it may scare the life out of them (I only have cats and no children yet so don’t know these things), so may well be more suited for a teenager or adult room. Either way they are a zillion times better than most of the wall stickers out there. Get your mitts on them at the Neato Shop here.

Gaultier Gold Bars

13 Jan

Let’s get this clear, this is not branded jewelry it’s a branded gold bar. Yes as in the stuff that’s valuated based on weight, instead of “how pretty it is” or “which celebrity was last spotted with it.” Ok already strange. It gets stranger when you discover Jean-Paul Gaultier has placed his logo on one-ounce 24-karot ingots of gold supplied by Dillon Gage Metals. This is beyond random and luckily Refinery 29 did some sums:

They and are selling for $1,826.33 with a $25 handling fee. Spot gold trading puts the price of one ounce of gold to be $1,660. Simply speaking, Jean-Paul Gaultier can charge $191.33 just for putting his name and logo on something.

Bern’s child eating sculpture

14 Oct

Today’s cool Swiss city find is located in Bern – another gem found through my work on the My Switzerland competition and the online game. A game which regular readers of this blog will known I lack any level of skill at so would never be able to win the £7777 and a holiday to Switzerland even if I wasn’t working on it.

No one is quite sure how the Child Eater of Bern came about (I love that fact the most) – and it is no piece of modern art either having been built in 1546 and found in one of the oldest fountains in the city of Bern.

One theory is that the terrifying Ogre is a depiction of Kronos, the Greek Titan. Kronos has arguably one of the most disturbing stories in Greek Mythology. Long story short, Kronos eats all his god children to keep them from taking over his throne.
