Fat & Furious

7 Jun

I love the fact that I am not the only person who gets lunchtime rage at sub-standard food, and I love it even more when others get so bored of crap lunches they start something as epic as Fat & Furious Burger. Of all their works of burger art this all white burger has to be my absolute favourite, not that it was easy to choose…

Fat & Furious is a self-initiated project born from the collision of two strong appetites. Thomas & Quentin (who founded the Graphic Design & Art Direction studio Furious) were so bored about random sandwich at lunchtime they decided to cook some crazy burgers in their little kitchen.  It soon became a ritual:  improvising and experimenting each week new ways  of cooking and representing a burger in very short lunch break. It takes about an hour and a half to find an idea, run to a supermarket to get everything,
cook, take a shoot and eat. From week to week, they tried to re-invent some edible burgers,  despite their over the top made to be photographed nature. From tomato to tabbasco, from pepper to gold powder, from eggs to eggplants,  everything is good between two buns.

The end result go their project – and an amazing blog – is some amazing images and a book – now a life goal is to make my hangry moods as productive as Thomas & Quentin’s lunchtime boredom « Fat & Furious Burger »

So excited to be blogging again (!!!) and what better way to start than by sharing the work of  an incredible food artist and fine artist Sarah Hardy. If I tell you she gained her skills in in wax-work museums, and as a internationally recognised fine artist, you can guess the quality of the edible fossil pieces Essex based Sarah accurately reproduces in the finest dark, milk & white Belgium Chocolate.

These incredible museum quality edible fossils are created with intricate casting and hand-painted detail – creating ultimate collectors items not novelty chocolate. With the largest fossil – the Megalodon Tooth – weighing in at 120g and a whopping 14cm long. 2 hours are spent hand finishing each one to the finest detail with a 11cm long T Rex Tooth and collectors box of 16 separate fossils also in the collection.

IT GETS EVEN BETTER…  Sarah has even created edible decapitated human heads from cake for international film companies and even a raw turkey cake which went on to be an online viral hit, food artist. Now she (& I) are dreaming of the day she gets to create a life sized T Rex Skull in chocolate.

A gallery of some more of her work is below – remember that all of the below are cakes or in the case of the anatomical heart chocolate…

Chocolate Wonderland

4 Jan

ARGH we were close to doing this last year but the potential sponsor said it would not get enough coverage for them – it’s gone global so that’s not annoying at all.

A new theme park made entirely of chocolate has just opened in China’s Shanghai on Friday.

According to Reuters, everything on display was made from chocolate, including a replica of ancient China’s famous Terracotta Warriors and the traditional Chinese symbol of the dragon.

Organisers say that the choice of delectable items on display was made based on an effort to unite the East and the West.

Shanghai’s World Chocolate Wonderland welcomed visitors through its doors on Friday (December 16), into a theme park of lifelike chocolate exhibits. Read more of this story (which of course wont get any coverage – sorry it’s bugging me!) over at Sky News, and see a gallery over at The Telegraph.

Gingerbread Typewriter

9 Dec

I got sent details of this AMAZING creation by Patti from Baked Ideas. Astonishingly it is 100% EDIBLE… You can read more about my cake projects here, or how to work with my creative consultancy here, but for now let’s gawp as how amazing Patti’s work is 😀

This oversized gingerbread typewriter is part of a gingerbread display to benefit City Harvest, currently on view for a month at the Parker Meridien Hotel in NYC.

There was no theme this year for the gingerbread “houses,” making it kind of difficult to decide what to do! We have made many regular gingerbread houses over the years – so we wanted to try something different.
I’ve been making alphabet letters lately (everyone loves eating them) so I was trying to figure out a way to incorporate them into this gingerbread project.
I also wanted to make something that feels like “holiday” to me … nostalgic, vintage, old fashioned………just like gingerbread itself.

So…. typewriter came to mind… a sort of gingerbread house for the letters that live inside!! Christmas unplugged, a letter to santa, granny’s laptop …… it was fun to think about.
First we made a model of the typewriter in cardboard, and then baked all the parts and crafted the roller, paper and metal keys out of sugar paste. The “glue” is royal icing, and cookies, stacked up, are the inner supports. The keyboard letters are cookies, iced in ivory and trimmed in silver. The iced gingerbread alphabet letters are frolicking in the sugar snow, sometimes spelling out words (fun, skip, eat, joy.)

I am glad we chose to make a typewriter. It is an image that is a reminder of a simpler time … wintery, happy and unexpected. I hope both kids and adults enjoy looking at it.
It’s 100% edible, down to the rice paper ribbon.

Bloody Black Milk Leggings

6 Jul

It is no secret that I LOVE Black Milk leggings and suffice to say I love these blood splattered leggings a LOT. I came across them researching for the Edible Autopsy photo shoot but I think these bad boys will stay in my wardrobe for a while! I am also thinking they would look good on the autopsy medical team aka waitresses (teamed with Jeffrey Campbell shoes of course). Click through at your own risk (to bank balance) as there are always at least 10 items I feel that I ‘must have’ from the Black Milk Clothing site every time I visit. I also should say that despite living in the UK – and Black Milk being based in Australia – the service is both awesome and speedy. Can’t recommend them enough.
