Wieliczka Salt Mine

24 Mar

I first found about about this place whilst watching guilty pleasure TV show Coach Trip (don’t judge me but I LOVE it). Anyway as it turns out the Wieliczka Salt Mine is an incredible structure, and rightly recognised by the UNESCO World Heritage Centre.

Located in Poland, this Salt Mine is literally an underground city ALL carved from salt rock.

Over a million tourists to the Wieliczka Salt Mine each year, the miners having turned the mine from a dark cave into a majestic royal location including giant salt-crystal chandeliers lighted, salt-carved monuments and decorated chambers.

I’ll be honest I had no desire to visit Poland until I saw this – could not more feel a city break coming on! Read more about incredible locations over at Atlas Obscura.
