I am currently working on a really exciting project for the Wellcome Collection called ‘Things’ – it’s basically a call to update Henry Wellcome’s curious collection with members of the public invited to donate objects no bigger than their head. In support of this I am in the midst of producing and directing a series of videos with known commentators talking about their personal contribution to the show. Here’s Jon Snow (who I wish was my Dad), and Jo Brand (who I have a real girl crush on, she was just awesome):
If you want to take part in the show after reading what you have to do (below) then head here:
A call to update Henry Wellcome’s curious collection. Please give us a ‘thing’ no bigger than your head.
- Bring us a thing during our great bring-a-thing-athon
- Bring this, bring that, bring the other, just nothing bigger than your head
- Lend it, gift it, or if you can’t bear to part with it, upload a photo of it
- Snooping is positively encouraged, so tell your friends about Things. No one should miss this feast for the voyeur!
In exchange for your thing you will be invited to the private view on Tuesday 19 October, 19.00-21.30.
Bring us an object between 12-19 October (except Monday 18 October)
Collect your object between 6pm on 21 October and 6pm on 23 October
Come and see everyone else’s objects any time between 12-22 October (except Monday 18 October)
THIS NEW EXHIBITION WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT YOU!
Love this Where The Wild Things are chalk drawing – expect to see more Wild Thing hype as the UK gears up for the movie launch Thanks so much to @wazzra for the tip – she rocks!
“We’ll take care of each other and we’ll all sleep together in a big pile”
You know what that sounds perfect to me – let the wild rumpus start!
Amazing Wilds Tattoo send to me by Tim Wood – Tim this rocks my world thank you.
Sorry for the whole Wild Things vibe but with the movie release less than a month away there is so much awesome stuff coming out. Here is the full set of movie posters via Empire Online. There is also a video game coming out soon.
This sketch is from Sonny Gerasimowicz, chosen as the Art Director for Where The Wild Things Are Movie – I love this fact especially as he is not a professional creature creator or artist. In fact he is a former graffiti writer turned ad agency creative. I am sure Sonny would have been super scared showing Sendak his initial sketches for the first time but according to this article in the Los Angeles Times it all went very well indeed;
Then the two traveled to Connecticut to show Sendak the renderings and get his blessing. The then-76-year-old writer-illustrator made some tweaks — suggestions about the muzzle on a bull-like Wild Thing and the feathers on the rooster Thing not being “flamboyant” enough — but remained markedly nonproprietary. “His attitude is so contrary to protecting anything,” Jonze said. “His assignment to us was, ‘Take this, make it your own. Make it something personal.’ “
Tissues ready? A longer trailer for Where The Wild Things Are – bring it oooooooooooon! I love it but it does make me cry. Sniff.
