Bleed Forever Fowler

24 May

I know I am ridiculously biased but this SFA animation from Pete Fowler is seriously strange and brilliant. Kind of matches the weather too!

Owler family

20 May

More owls have arrived at Society For The Projection of Banjo Playing Owls. The information about their characters means we can settle them down easily after their trauma residing in a charity shop ornament section:

Mum and dad owler are proud of their brood, though by the looks of things they’re not doing a very good job of parenting…. the daughter is a bit of an effing show-off with her silver hotpant outfit and the teenage EMO son has some anger management issues (note aggressive wing-flapping). It’s the twins I’m most worried about though. They’re just so unresponsive and cold…

John Cale

9 Mar

Founding member of the Velvet Underground, John Cale is a Welsh musician, composer, singer-songwriter and record producer. And Pete’s just drawn him for Red Bull’s Daily Note:

Gwyn & Gwynneth

I love these pictures and am a spoilt monsteress – the artist proofs were a great present from Mr Fowler. Sadly sold out (well not sadly for me) but some other designs are still available over at POW.

Pete Fowler’s Tweeting Bike

2 Mar

It might be a Twike, or it may be a Bitter, but either way this Twitter bike from the Chance Collective for our client at the GLA who is looking after the upcoming East festival ROCKS. Designed by cult artist Pete Fowler (@themonsterist) for London’s EAST Festival taking place between 4-11 March – to encourage and aid interaction with the social media channels for the event. It was designed with the main colours of both Twitter, and EAST in mind and will make its debut at the launch of this year’s festival; the EAST Commonwealth Games at Spitalfields, London this Friday lunchtime.

Working with The Greenhouse Group, the bike will be fitted with a mobile which is programmed to tweet out messages when it comes within range of key areas of the festival, encouraging people to not only follow the bike online but also offline around the festival; there will also be a google maps mashup which shows the path of the bike through East London.

The decision to create the ‘Twike’ came with the cycling being one of the festival’s four main themes. There are loads of fantastic events for cyclists in this year’s EAST including the Cycle East gig tour where you can travel to three gigs taking place in splendid East London locations all in one afternoon, on your bike, for free. Pete was chosen as he works and lives in the very heart of East London (and of course is my friend who leads me astray). Bike polo can only end badly. I will not be playing!

Pete Fowler ATP Design

You’ll maybe understand now a little more why I absolutely could not deal with his art in my bedroom – awesome but not restful! Read more about ATP here.

Psychedelic London newspapers

9 Feb

The Red Bull Daily Note free newspaper hit the streets of London yesterday – but I have to say the design of today’s was far superior than the first edition. It was Psychedelic London as designed by Pete Fowler and it made newstands look really happy places today. I took lots of pictures and for once the iPhone came good on that front. If you missed it then you can download the newspaper here.

This is what Red Bull had to say on the matter – whilst clearly channeling Nathan Barley eh doll snatch:

Blam! Like a time traveling DeLorian, issue #3 of the Daily Note busts a hole in the space-time-music-print continuum and spills its wordy guts all over the sunny streets of London this afternoon. The Daily Note is the printed parchment sidekick of the 2010 Academy in London, handed out at Tube stations around the city as well as the hunkiest hang-outs and wildest watering holes.

Here is a pretty cool (ahem) video showing how the artwork was worked up – You Tube is being hateful today so please double click video – or here – to view properly.
