100 Pandas

Fabulous new book dishes the dirt on pandas and makes panda dinner conversation a must;

1) Did you know that if a panda gets struck by lightning, its black hair turns white and its white hair black? Favourite fact ever. These bears are known to pandologists as negative pandas.

2) Pandas have no fingerprints. This is believed to be why they are used as accomplices in many jewel and bank robberies. International law enforcement agencies arrest around 700 pandas every year.

3) American Special Forces deployed six robot pandas equipped with advanced surveillance equipment into the forest of eastern China to spy on rural military bases (image of one of the robot pandas shown above). Apparently half of these robo-bears were shot by commercial poachers in the first week of deployment. The others were adopted by a cupboard of real pandas, and based on readings from tracking devices, were still roaming the forests until their batteries wore out in 1998.

Winnie’s New Friend

After 80 years Winnie-the-Pooh has a new friend – Lottie the Otter who is “feisty and a stickler for etiquette”. She joins Pooh, Eeyore and Tigger in their first authorized adventure since 1928.

David Benedictus’s follow-up has made melancholic donkey Eeyore “more proactive” (due to Prozac?) and the characters “engage in a game of cricket”.

Amazing Fat Duck Imagery

The last thing you would want to do with The Big Fat Duck Cookbook is let is anywhere near the kitchen – this book is far too good for that and should most certainly be ‘saved for best’ as people over the age of 50 tend to say. Photographer Dominic Davies brings the genius of chef Heston Blumenthal to life through some of the most amazing food photography I have ever seen.
