Sneak peak of some of the other cakes from this project up on the Facebook page, and if you want to find out more about my cake projects head here.
Nevie Pie & I were very excited to be asked to work with Poke on a series of dessert tables / cakes to celebrate their 10th birthday, each of which had to relate to a website they had built over the last 10 years. On a personal level few things have made me as happy this year that this awesome company trusted my creativity skills for their 10th Birthday (yes Nevie Pie also made the cake below).
I am going to post all of these cakes and dessert tables over the next week, but thought I should start with the one that appears to be everyone’s favorite so far… …the TWO Skype cakes.
Set at either end of the room, each on it’s own desk, they were of course ‘Skyping each’ other live. Well it’s Poke’s party so their had to be some extra added ‘geek’ in the baking. Stunning work from Nevie Pie on the actual cake creation as ALWAYS.

UPDATE: Here is a video of the cake table at Kerrang. I say ‘video’ I took a roaming view of the table (& yes that music was on all night – it sent me slightly crazy)!
( & yes that is some of my underwear draped over the bunting)
So last night Cakehead Loves were asked to do a cake installation at the Kerrang awards by Torture Garden, the production company running the reception (more on the other installations in another post). We also had to walk about the tables in the award ceremony giving the artists vagina cakes and other treats such as a Molly Bakes “shit on a stick” like… Half Penny Home also made the bunting you can see… Alix Fox was my partner in crime for this section and we were dressed in amazing burlesque clown costumes from Prangsta with corsets, frilly pants and candy floss wigs. People such as @seansmithsucks (in the Blackout) were loving the Vagina cakes (as well as the frilly pants) made by Black Cherry Bakery and giving them some serious Twitter loving tweeting pictures such as below. Alice Cooper declined one as he is on a diet ;-)
It was such a FUN night but to be honest I have felt better so I will keep it brief and share these images of our sweet table – designed by Natasha of Nevie Pie Cakes fame, with an astonishing Clown Cake from Mamma Jamma Cakes (formerly Chic Cakes) – with a longer post coming soon.
JARID LETO EATING ONE OF OUR VAGINA CAKES
The concept was to design the table to look like “the morning after” with edible cigarette drinks (astonishingly crafted by Nevie Pie), half ‘spilt’ wine, cheese (marzipan) on sticks that look as if it had been half bitten, Molly Bakes cake pops that look like sausages lying in pools of jelly… I am waaaaaaaaaay to hung over to do this justice as we partied hard afterwards (well we had frilly pant on) so I am going to leave you with you these pictures whilst I crawl into a hole and die until this hangover goes.

Ok so how cool is this Twin Peaks birthday cake? That said I’m with Dale Cooper on the love of good cherry pie – and clearly I am not alone:
Now as a final happy 20th birthday blog post to Twin Peaks there is – OF COURSE – a rich seam of TP ‘stuff’ over on Etsy – and even a dedicated store – The Great Northern. Here is a quick review:
In celebration of David Bowie’s (I LOVE HIM) 60th birthday today here are 60 things you might not know about him, and 6 videos below (of course).
So it’s not his 60th, but 64th (thanks Rene) but hey that is exactly why I have to stop blogging pissed!!!!
Just how ridiculously SUPER GEEKY is this 50th (2007) birthday cake for the helvetica font.
Read the article here, and enjoy the images below.
Goma is the first gorilla ever born in a Eurpopean zoo who last Tuesday turned 50 years old.
Unlike zoo born gorillas today, Goma spent the first years of her life almost entirely with zoo staff. While this made her exceptionally close with humans, it made it difficult for her to enter gorilla society and it took many years for her to find her place with her fellow great apes. Today as a result of gorillas like Goma, zoos go to great lengths to ensure that their animals are comfortable with their own kind.
I love the ‘Harvey Heads’ idea. It is a perfect way to wish the iconic writer Harvey Pecker – who was behind the American Splendor series of autobiographical comic books – a happy 70th birthday. Smith Mag arranged to have 70 ‘Harvey Heads’ drawn by a variety of different artists – and what better present for a man who has been famously drawn by different artists throughout his career.
As for the Pekar Project itself;
Harvey Pekar’s been mining the mundane for magic for more than 30 years in his autobiographical American Splendor comics. Now he has teamed with SMITH and four remarkable artists to create his first ongoing webcomics series—and some of his jazziest work to date. The new stories will appear every other week, with interviews, creator spotlights, and behind-the-scenes goodies, as well as essays and art from Pekar collaborators and inhabitants of the extended Pekarverse.
Now making cakes like this is just plain showing off. But yes it is depressingly awesome!
