I am not a KitKat fan (boring wafer, not enough chocolate, and you only ever get to eat one finger as so easy to share it is expected of you) but as it turns out the Japanese LOVE the things & the more random the flavors the better – in fact they worship them so much Nestle produces weird & wonderful flavors specifically for consumption by that market. Some of the more random flavors include watermelon & salt, pineapple, burned coffee, soy sauce, grilled potato, and sweet corn. They really put the dark chocolate KitKats everyone in the UK got into a froth about the shade don’t they – if you want to try your own then Cyber Candy sticks the cheese variety. Brilliantly there is even a Flickr stream dedicated to them… …KitKats of the World
Kinako Ohagi — Kinako Ohagi is a traditional Japanese treat which is similar to mochi. Covered in sweet beans, sesame, or a toasted soy flower called “kinako”, the treat is traditionally served during Higan, a Buddhist holiday celebrated around the Spring and Fall equinoxes in which people visit family graves to comfort the spirits of ancestors. Although it tastes more like a hazelnut latte (with 3 pumps) than red beans, the message here is loud and clear: Kit Kat respects and encourages tradition. Clever move, Kit Kat.
You can find out more about some of most popular stranger flavors here…

The Met Bar are doing an anti-establishment high tea around the Royal Wedding which is great news although it is £27! Well I thought it was great news until I saw the same old same old cakes trotted out – ‘anti-establishment’ my arse. If a black cake stand featuring a few union jacks on cakes (the pound shop in Eltham sells those exact flags) and punk music in the background is the best anti-establishment they can cook up then can I fear for creativity, not to mention puzzled that they missed an obvious trick by not including anything from Fortnum & Masons following their recent ‘occupation’. Some of the savory dishes – such as ‘Quiche a la Fergie’ – start to get there, as does the God Save the Queen whiskey based drink… …but again that said I think appearances are more important than names…
For starters I would have served up some of the amazing Curious Confectioner’s fingers (halloween rotting versions shown below) sans Kate’s bad luck engagement ring, some of the EYHO ‘fuckaroons’ as I don’t understand what is so radical about a strawberry & cream flavored macaroon (you have to be 18+ to enjoy this tea anyway as it is in a bath) and ‘something’ that meant you could be licking cream out of Johnny Rotten… …or at least got a lead player from this era to design a high tea with a difference and involved absinthe… (so many ideas I will stop now as could go forever). Maybe I am in a bad mood, or maybe it just bugs the hell out of me that people with amazing brands, and budgets, make something which could have been AMAZING just about OK and dare I say it borderline boring!

Zoltar, who you may well remember from his small yet important role in Big, has arrived at Coney Island! At least, some sort of distant relative of his has who is currently reported to be living under the Wonder Wheel beside Grandma’s Predictions, and that “they are already close friends!”
In the movie the Zoltar scene (in which Josh fatefully tells the machine he wants to be an adult) was shot at nearby Rye Playland, but a pepsi machine now stands at that the spot…
If you go and visit him be careful what you wish for peeps – I know who I am going to wish for!
