Made to seem like an awesomely crap grindhouse movie trailer, the Black Keys’ ‘Howlin For You’ is about “Alexa Wolff, a sexy assassin with a troubled past, unknowingly falls in love with the man who killed her father…”

Thanks to Andy for tweeting me this bad boy! All my cakey bakey efforts have paled into comparison next to Mike Cooper from the Electric Pig website.
Mike enjoys making elaborate, fun birthday cakes for his son Ben, and this year he got a bit carried away with it all. In his latest attempt to delight young Ben, Mike made a fully-working Angry Birds cake, complete with a catapult and iced birds and pigs as per the obscenely popular game. Total assembly time was ten hours. Total destruction time was two minutes. We don’t know how good it tasted, which as far as we’re concerned, is the most important thing.

I personally think these are going to be the next big thing (along with macaroons). I’m talking about my latest food crush is Gelatinas (thanks to Vic Leeds for sending me this link) – they are fruit-flavored desserts, popular for decades in some parts of Mexico. Dramatic, beautiful & novel, they are around the same price as a designer cupcake but with lots of protein, no fat and few calories. They are dream food & I have to include them in a show this year, just not sure which one (yet)!..
If you love these as much as me then be sure to check out this video of how they are made, it’s mind boggling:

Idea Generation have been working with Essential Works, the creators of the hotly anticipated Barrett Book, on the upcoming Syd Barrett exhibition. Best of all they have been allowed to reveal a few of the stunning images found within the book to you a month early (to see more hit the Facebook page). The picture of the Roundhouse stage is amazing.

So Eat Your Heart out sold come cakes at Torture Garden after being invited by it’s founder / owner David to do so. It was a strange environment for a cake shop – but one heaped in so much dark cakey inspiration we all came away with so much inspiration. I felt like such an old lady going home at 3am when people were still coming in but hey ho. I also met a really nice photographer there, Stephanie Woolf, who took some great photographs of us (below) and the night in general. Her London Insight blog is also worth checking out (though she’ll not be posting the TG story for a while so it’s worth visiting it again in a few weeks.
Here is a gallery of some more of Stephanie’s photographs she took on the night, or view the full Flickr stream here.
