Gene Sculatti’s “Catalog of Cool” sums this up perfectly:
Sometimes I only Have Eyes For You (1959) sounds like a transmission from outer space. Sometimes it sounds like the spookiest record ever made..” I’ll have to agree, but it was also one of the most smolderingly, melt-in-your-mouth ballads ever written, and absolutely unforgettable when performed by the Fabulous Flamingos.
So here I am having a massively crappy day and this song came on totally stopping me in my (stomping around) tracks. So beautiful I am rather loathe to share as I think it rarity (ie not a Smooth radio ‘love hour’ classic thank god) is one of the things that also makes it appeal to me. By this I mean you tend to have to go out of you way to hear it, so it’s always heard on purpose. Anyway here you go – I going off to eat some worms and sulk in some corner of the internet.
