Austrian artist Markus Leitsch uses animal hides and furs in a series of works which explore the human body – to be honest they scare me… …OK they are fucking terrifying.
The ‘coat’ leitsch uses a cow hide soaked in resin to create a mold of his body lying on the ground (arghhhhh), and the same with standing human forms.
The piece recalls the cow hide rugs found on living room floors all over the world. instead of insulating the floor, these hides act as a shelter for the body, as they did when they were skin for cows. in ‘suit’, a similar process is applied to cowhides, but instead of covering the body on a surface they envelope.
