It has been really hard to find a lot of ‘english’ information on these amazing mouthfuls of joy as I can’t read Japanese. In a nutshell what you need to know is that Wagashi are “seasonal Japanese sweets” which express the colors and scents of each individual season“.

For example the image that looks a bit like unicorn sick below has been “fashioned to look like a hydrangea, which blossoms during the rainy season, and you won’t find this sweet at any other time of year”.

And once I say that this wagashi below represents the autumnal maple leaves of November it all starts to make total sense.

As you can see from the pictures below these really are sweets that look good enough to eat – they truly are miniature works of art and my new fad.
