Dash Snow – 1981-2009

Another talented artist has passed away – Dash Snow known for his photography and graffiti art, passed away today of the 14th of July from an overdose. This interview is really chilling in the current context – what keeps you alive?

RIP Dash Snow

I’m not a businessman. [But] my business used to be and still is thievery, to some extent. I came across a camera, which I thieved when I was 16 and started taking pictures. I’ve been partying for years, probably since I was 11. I did my first line of coke when I was 13 years old and I’ve been partying every night and taking pictures ever since. Everything’s a blur and every night is New Year’s as far as I’m concerned. [When I'm at a party, I look for] a dark corner, a wallet, a bag of blow and some love to go.

The world’s new internet star is the world’s saddest dog – a lonely looking pug photographed as he waited for his owner. It picked up by Flickr and “Mr Newman” is now an internet sensation. Even the so called ‘serious’ UK newspapers are covering with story with the Telegraph saying;

The photograph was taken outside a café in the bohemian Californian city of San Francisco, which may go some way to explaining why he is dressed in a stylish grey and purple sweater.

Is there anything else to say about the newspaper. Nope thought not. However, I have to say having Fungus the Boneyman means I am immune to dog sag eyes having lived with this (see below) on a daily basis;

And then the boneyman got bored of the whole “I didn’t vote for Boris Johnson’ photo shoot and went to sleep;

Half Bred Apple

Oh come on the Buddha pears would have taken some beating. This wont do it although “fruit grower Ken Morrish was left stunned when he found a golden delicious apple on his tree split exactly half green, half red down the middle” (source).

Nemo 33

Check out this dude above!!! Moving swiftly on Nemo 33 is John Beernaerts dream and the world’s deepest swimming pool which consists of;

• a submerged structure with flat platforms at various depth levels
• two large flat-bottomed areas at depth levels of 5m (16 ft) and 10m (32 ft)
• a large circular pit descending to a depth of 33m (108 ft
• 2,500,000 litres of non-chlorinated, highly filtered spring water maintained at 30°C (86°F)
• several simulated underwater caves at the 10m depth level
• numerous underwater windows that allow outside visitors to look into the pools at various depths

The complex was designed by Belgian diving expert John Beernaerts as a multi-purpose diving instruction, recreational, and film production facility, and opened in 2004. It scares me just looking at it.

In this installation, Shanabrook covers (or entombs) common plastic toy soldiers in actual dark chocolate, flooding the gallery with the heady and comforting aroma that’s decidedly at odds with the display of carnage.
