UPDATE: You can now see a video here!

Oh this is good, as in strange good. A Chinese farmer been tinkering with modified pears since 2003, and this year he’s reportedly grown 10,000 edible Buddhas. The effect is achieved through growing pears in confining molds. These are just in time as the UK can once again celebrate wonky shaped fruit and vegetables thanks to the abolition of EU rules on the size and shape of 36 types of fruit and veg. Bring it oooooooooon!

Of this is nothing new and this pumpkin shaped like a human face was ‘made’ decades ago using a similar technique. It may be old but I still find it terrifying today!

And I give you yet more examples of veg fiddling;

In 1996, Laura Stein examined the line between cultural imposition and natural development;

cool, i saw those little budda pear last week on news, it’s quite funny n it’s not a bad idea to take it from the japanese farmers. we have seen too many watermelon in square, it’s time to get a change!
OMG that is the coolest sheyt ever.

This is a new way to preset our existing fruits and vegetables.
where are the boob shaped melons ? oh wait………
This is just another way of manipulating nature for money… but at least its toward inspiration. Most people don’t want to practice toward their buddhahood – they might think eating a pear shaped buddha could do it for them. I feel pears are more beautiful as pears….

They are so cool, I’d much rather see farmers change their fruit and veg that way than see the scientists genetically modify them. It’s also a good way to get kids to eat healthier.
Such a nice pears and I think it’s a totally unbelievable but its true.

Thes are freaking awesome! I though the face shaped pumpkin is the best. I dare not ask what they cost though – mega bucks. I heard the baby shaped pears cost $10 each!
