Something tells me the special effects wonderland of Robert Abel & Associates is a perfect post carnival article. It makes my head feel funny. Also of note is that despite applying their awesome futurism Sci-Fi cult film classics such as Tron, The Andromeda Strain and The Black Hole – that is a truly dreadful pink jumper.

And my personal favourite:

I am really excited about Bestival this year as doing something REALLY cool there but more of that later. This ‘Swim to Bestival’ has got to be the best sporting event I have ever come across:
What better way to arrive at Bestival than with a bracing charity swim across the Solent? With Navy lifeguards on hand in case you get a bit knackered and Miguel Mantovani from The Cuban Brothers screaming encouragement into a megaphone from his rubber dinghy, this is the way to travel!

I love the Cuban Brothers and the thought of them ’supporting’ a swim, from a boat, with a mega-phone, is nothing short of brilliant. It is just really annoying that the films around the activity are less than shining example of entertaining films. How can you make such great content so zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz… …my will to live fled when I heard the original choice of the Baywatch music if I an honest.
Anyway here is the film – more info and dontate to charity here.

Mercury is extremely toxic, for many years, the world’s greatest source of mercury were the mines at Almadén, Spain, which produced some 250,000 metric tons of mercury over nearly two millenniums of operation.
So when Spain decided to build a monument to the mine (which was long worked by criminals and slave laborers, most of whom died of mercury poisoning), they commissioned American sculptor Alexander Calder to build a beautiful fountain, which instead of pumping water, pumped pure mercury. It was to be displayed at the 1937 World’s Fair.
At the time, the inherent beauty of the liquid metal was well understood, but its toxicity was not. Today, the fountain resides in the Fundacio Joan Miro in Barcelona, Spain, and continues to pump pure mercury, though now it does so behind a pane of glass to protect viewers from touching or breathing fumes produced by this deadly work of art.

It would be awesome for Mel – who owns and runs Prangsta – to be as busy as possible so feeling increasingly guilty for keeping her amazing costumes my black book secret for a good five years. I mean even the shop (below) looks like the set of Alice in Wonderland meets Mr Ben – I could spend hours and hours getting lost in there.

Prangsta is an Aladdin’s Cave of burlesque costumes – I like to think there were all designed by someone living along side Alice in Wonderland (I will have to confirm with Mel this is not the case).
Prangsta is far too glorious to ever be called a fancy dress shop although essentially that is just what it is – but with AMAZING costumes that make you look like beautiful sexual creatures – the same effect that is impossible with bought online cheap fancy dress.

The trip for your costume fitting is worth every second – here are some Prangsta costumes out and about from Ollie Harrop’s flickr stream:
