I am going to make it my summer mission to hold one of these events! Cardboard tube fighting!!! It is like the best idea ever, and in general it goes a little something like this…

Anyone over 5 can take part and rules include “no poking, no stabbing and try to keep it above the belt”. Going for the face is allowed if a cardboard helmet is being worn. “Regulation” lightweight cardboard tubes are used which average at around 3 feet long. The player whose tube breaks to the point of a 45-degree angle or more first whilst dueling is the loser.

Read more about the event in Philadelphia here.

A clever new form of combat means yet another way for us to revel in our secret medieval personae! Would that all warfare be rendered harmless yet cathartic…

Well it’s cooler than LARPing because… uh… it’s not called LARPing… which is a really lame name. Plus we all saw role models, it’s not some mysterious nerdy sub culture thing anymore.

Though I love it. it’s lame.

Also last I checked fat middle aged black women, and guys in khaki shorts and teal colored short sleeved shirts with new balance running shoes, did not quite fit the hipster bill.

but then again compaired to LARPers anyone can be considered hip.

Do you have to use the wimpy tubes from wrapping paper of can you use heavy duty ones like from carpet runners. Or maybe tinfoil. You could use a tinfoil tube as a shiv.
