Miss Cakehead has come over a bit National Geographic with this post (normal service will resume shortly) – it is just so mental & macabre I could not resist posting it.
Mexico’s Island of the Dolls is one of the World’s strangest tourist destinations. Many years ago a doll was first placed on the island to appease the spirit of a young girl who had drowned there. It was from this starting point that today we find the island is literally covered with 1000’s of dolls, each doll showing varying levels of decay. Seriously eerie…

This pics are cool, i know there set up but seriously like behind my house, I was walking one day and found two old baby dolls ripped apart and spread over barbedwire and other old metal toys. I took a few pics two years ago and they look very similar to these. Funny.

Outstanding doll collection! Creepy ,but done in
to appease the spirit of a young girl who had drowned there. Sad yet sweet too.

This is totally creepy. I think I would freak out if I visited this place. When I was in Hilo, Hawaii there was a strange shop along the waterfront. They had souvineer stuff but they had also dolls heads sort of like on the island (old & decrepid) in glass jars. I think they also had old operating tools? I can’t remember. IT’s been so long since I’ve been there. I don’t know if the doll heads in jars were for sale. I should have bought one even though it would freak me out to have something like that in my house.

I didn’t think I’d be able to sleep after watching it on Syfy. You couldn’t pay me to be on that island after dark. Creepy is an understatement! Destination Truth is pretty cool.

I think Jay & Grant from Ghost Hunters should go investegate this island, that would be so cool. It would make a great halloween special, like the ones they have done the last 3 years or so.

Oh yeah creepy as hell, they weren’t just placed there for the appeasement of the dead girl, the caretaker started putting them up to scare trespassers
Watched it on syfy twice, you can also watch it on syfy.com

Does anyone know anything about the little girl who died there?
Karitow // October 15, 2009 at 2:00 am
Yeah, it’s creepy!! This island is in Xochimilco, in Mexico City and you can visit it only if you are in a “trajinera” (kind of boat) tour.
