Psychedelic London newspapers

February 9, 2010 · Leave a Comment

The Red Bull Daily Note free newspaper hit the streets of London yesterday – but I have to say the design of today’s was far superior than the first edition. It was Psychedelic London as designed by Pete Fowler and it made newstands look really happy places today. I took lots of pictures and for once the iPhone came good on that front. If you missed it then you can download the newspaper here.

This is what Red Bull had to say on the matter – whilst clearly channeling Nathan Barley eh doll snatch:

Blam! Like a time traveling DeLorian, issue #3 of the Daily Note busts a hole in the space-time-music-print continuum and spills its wordy guts all over the sunny streets of London this afternoon. The Daily Note is the printed parchment sidekick of the 2010 Academy in London, handed out at Tube stations around the city as well as the hunkiest hang-outs and wildest watering holes.

Here is a pretty cool (ahem) video showing how the artwork was worked up – You Tube is being hateful today so please double click video – or here – to view properly.

Bill Drummond -The17

February 9, 2010 · Leave a Comment

I have the very great pleasure of working with Bill very closely at the moment – he is the Patron of the Haiti Earthquake Fundraiser. This shares a little more why this night matters so much to him, as it does to all of us working on it too.

TEN TRUTHS ABOUT The17

  • The17 is a choir
  • The17 makes music that celebrates time, place and occasion
  • The17 make music using no words, rhythm or melody
  • The17 have different singers every time they perform
  • The17 singers can be anyone, of any age from anywhere and you
  • The17 has not and will not be recorded for posterity
  • The17 will never be heard on TV, radio or the Internet
  • The17 never has an audience
  • The17 have performed around the world more than 250 times since 2006
  • The 17 ignore what has gone before

Culture curating

February 8, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Inexplicably Culture Label invited me to guest edit the picks off their site for Valentines Day (oh the irony) – anyway here are my picks:

Love Rules Without Rules Print: My pick of the Keep Calm statements. I can dream that life would ever be that simple

Hate/Love Print: I HEART this print – much like a psychologist it reminds us that both hate and romantic love can result in similar acts of extreme behaviour

Half Heart Mug: Proof you have to look at something from many different angles in order to see the romance in any given situation, or in this case a mug

Dracula Hammer Poster: This print features an iconic image from Dracula, a film that has sex and sexuality in it’s fore – whilst the neon glitter of this print would loudly declare its darkly sexy intentions throughout the night on any bedroom wall. With Dracula luring his victims through seduction before murdering them, I can’t think of a better print for Valentines Day.

Hirst No Love Lost: Hirst himself that ‘No Love Lost’ was a series of paintings “deeply connected to the past.” Surely the same can be said for all of our emotions – with particular relevance to the screwed up aspects of our personalities.

Flames of Love Print: This print declares that ‘Flames Of Love Are Burning In My Heart For Eternity’ – or alternatively until you fall in love again.

No sex, No War, No Me T-Shirt: No sex, No War, No Me, or alternatively. No Valentine’s Card, No Sex and No Me

Sleep In My Arms by Youssef Nabil: A perfectly simple, utterly romantic, statement.

Je t’aime Pillowcase:
In certain circumstances it might be very good to have something to read on a pillow – I think we all know what those circumstances might be

Sky High by Sarah J Coleman: If you can look at this print and not a) feel happy and b) think of long hot lazy summers then you have a heart of stone. Fact.

This is not a new idea by any stretch of the imagination but there is a certain quirkiness to these Storm Trooper images from Stefan that make them some of the best:
